ABSTRACT

December 2019 witnessed the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan, Hubei province of China, which has soon spread nationwide and across national borders, posting a menacing pandemic threat. Children are themselves highly susceptible infectious diseases in normal times not to mention an epidemic period. Coupled with the high incidence of seasonal influenza, it is imperative to strengthen epidemiological screening of children, along with effective isolation, treatment, prevention and control measures. In view of specifics of the hospital, the authors proposed to further improve the medical emergency procedure, strictly enforcing screening and isolation regulations, and standardizing medical procedure. They also proposed scientific layout and use of the infection wards. These measures are designed to control the epidemic and protect the safety of medical staff.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Paludism or malaria is one of the most frequent parasitic diseases in the world. In recent years there has been an increase in its incidence due to the growth in the number of travelers to endemic areas, lack of adequate prophylaxis and the increasing prevalence of parasites resistant to the drugs used for treatment, affecting the productive activity of the economically active population. Objectives: To describe the Clinical and Epidemiological Behavior of Patients with Malaria, aged between 12 months and 18 years hospitalized in the different services of J M de los Rios Children's Hospital Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study was carried out with a non-probabilistic sample of an intentional type. Data were collected through a standard instrument, from 2014 to 2018, obtaining a study group of 19 patients. Results: Female sex constituted 57.9 % of the study group, schoolchildren predominated between 6 - 10 years, Miranda state being the most frequent source with 42.1 %. Regarding the clinical manifestations, the continuous fever obtained the highest percentage. The diagnosis was made mainly through the Thick Gota method and the most frequent species was Plasmodium vivax with 78.94 %. Anemia and leukopenia represented the predominant paraclinical alterations. Conclusions: It was evidenced that there was an increase in the appearance of new cases of Malaria in the infantile population, however most of them presented a satisfactory clinical evolution with few related complications; there were no reported cases of mortality in this investigation due to Malaria.

ABSTRACT

@# Objective To investigate the composition of the disease spectrum of hospitalized children in Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital, so as to provide scientific basis of the strategy to refine pediatric medical resources and health care. Methods Totally 268809 patients from 2013 to 2017 was analyzed and compared with the 2003-2007 data. Results Compared to 2003-2007, the number of hospitalized children and involved diseases increased significantly in 2013-2017. The proportion of common diseases such as respiratory system (28.73% vs 26.49%), digestive system (12.68% vs 10.78%), and nervous system (6.22% vs 3.72%)) significantly decreased; while the proportion of injury and poisoning (2.13% vs 7.4%), infectious diseases, parasites (7.15% vs 10.69%), tumors (2.65% vs 4.12%), and blood immunity (1.42% vs 3.19%) increased. Respiratory diseases remain the first ranking disease in hospitalized children (26.49%), with pneumonia as the first ranking single disease among it. The top 5 hospitalized children in 2013-2017 were pneumonia, bronchitis, hernia, respiratory infections, and neonatal pneumonia.
